Being Sick Sucks

Last Friday I came down with a pretty bad case of...I have no idea what it was actually. My entire body ached. It hurt to move. I had a sore throat and throbbing ears. Cold sweats. The works. My son also came down with the apparently oh so common but I had never heard of it Hand Foot and Mouth disease...gross? He had a really mild case of it though and got over it quickly. It took me a few days to recover and while I was recovering I also somehow come down with Hand Foot and Mouth disease. Apparently, it is very rare for an adult to catch this disease but Joe says the disease most likely got confused because of my short stature and thought I too was a child.
So today I woke up and I actually feel pretty good. Its amazing how a few days of feeling like crap makes you really come to appreciate not being sick. I ran today. It was amazing. I am glad I waited until I felt better to run.

Back On The Wagon

I've been running consistently lately and this week is the first week of my training leading up to my first post pregnancy ultra. My body is a lot different than it used to be and it was really frustrating trying to figure out what was okay and what was not okay for me in terms of running. I'm gaining more confidence though in the capabilities of my body and have slowly started to lose weight. I am in the healthy range for my weight and height and my bmi is average but I would still like to lose 10-15 more pounds to be at a healthy running weight. I am still six pounds above my pre pregnancy weight. Training for a race and losing those last pounds don't exactly go hand in hand and I am well aware that running does not equal a loss in weight. For myself, it's about change in my diet.

Most of my runs are either on the treadmill at the YMCA or with a jogging stroller. The weekends are the only time I am able to get some miles in on trails or pavement alone. Texas is super hot in the summer but hopefully training in the heat pays off during the fall and winter races.

Going to the track later today with a friend to get in a few more miles today. I'm kinda excited about this because besides the "track" in an old gym I used to go to the last time I've ran on an actual track was in highschool.

Need for Speed

I've been working on speedwork a lot more lately. By that I mean I have been trying to do speedwork consistently. I've got the long slow running thing down but it would be nice to get faster. I'm probably going to run a couple of 5ks in the future as they don't take as much of a toll on my body.

The "Hey, It's Been a Year" Blog Update

So.....it's been awhile :) I am no longer a pregnant lady who likes to run but rather a Momma that likes to run. A lot has changed since my last blog post, the biggest change being I'm now a momma bear and my son is going to turn 6 months old in a couple of weeks. The second big change is that I'm living in San Antonio now. A lot of people like San Antonio and the Lone Star State but guess what? I'm not one of them. The city is super spread out and it's just not my cup of tea. I like cold weather. I like snow. I don't like blazin' hot temperatures. It's really kinda lonely here too. We don't have any family and haven't made any friends down here. I'm a stay at home mom so I don't really get out much and when I do I have my son with me. I've gone out to dinner once without him haha.

I have been getting back to running since having the baby. I did a 10 mile race this past month and it was pretty fun. It was in Austin so it was nice to see the city. I like Austin a heck of a lot more than San Antonio. I think it's a bit more my scene.

I've slacked off on running this past week, I have some medical issues that I think are complicated by my continued running as they I think are getting worse the more mileage I've been building up. It's pretty frustrating and as someone who identifies as a runner it hurts and is confusing to know where to go on from here.
Here are some pics of me and my little one:
